the iphone

After much thought, I decided to buy myself the legendary/hated/loved/overhyped iphone. At $400 a pop and considerable monthly payments, its definitely not for everyone (especially if you already have an iPod). However after a week, I am still thoroughly impressed with what it can do. The following is my little pro/con breakdown of Steve Job’s little wondergadget.

Pro:
Interface: beautiful and responsive. typing is easy.
Form Factor: undeniably slick, thin. screen is huge.
Email: in my pocket.
iPod: done right. album art is sexy.
Google Maps: no gps, but realtime traffic and satellite view are excellent.
Weather: simple and clean.
Visual Voicemail: voicemail no longer so fucking annoying.
WiFi: jump on anywhere for a speed boost.
External Speaker: not that loud, but very convenient.
Overall Connectivity: smart browser/phone/email integration.

Con:
Disk Space: 8 gigs? at least its flash memory, no moving parts.
EDGE: this isnt much an issue for me, i find edge to be sufficient but i know a 3g upgrade is coming.
No [Web] Flash: rumors that its coming.
No Native IM Client: really? this one annoys me the most.
No Multiperson Text Messaging: can sms with only one person at a time.
No 64-bit OS Support: again…really?
SDK Delay: let in the 3rd Party developers. I want my SSH/VNC/AIM.
