Goose Island Matilda
by Brian

Goose Island’s Reserve beers are dominating my adventure of new finer beers. My only regret for these beers is that they only come in four packs, and I don’t know where to find the last of the reserve beers.

The Matilda Story: While traveling in Belgium, we visited an abbey that was surrounded by great legends and folklore. We were lucky enough to hear their story and enjoy the great beer they brew. We wanted to share what we’d heard and tasted, so we created Matilda. Matilda is made with a rare yeast that suggests a fruity and spicy flavor. There is complex maltiness balanced with a profuse amount of hops making it a great beer to enjoy with a plate of fresh mussels.

Brewery hometown: Chicago

Appearance: Orangish amber with little bitty bits of flavor floating around. One thing about this beer is that three out of the four that i opened and poured, foamed harcore. from the moment i opened it, it started foaming out the top and really didn’t want to let go. not even my fault it just produces hardcore head.

Aroma: Smells sweet and fruity with very little acknowledgment of the presence of alcohol.

Taste: This is a Belgian wheat thats extremely smooth and fruity tasting. the fruity flavor also comes with a “spicy” aftertaste that i thought actually tasted a bit like cinnamon. once you get pack the intense head its a truly beautiful beer.

Alcohol %: 7.0

Drink One or four?: Drink the four and appreciate them like they should be.

Cost: $8/ 4 pack

Overall: 9.0 / 10 Prefer Demolition but this is a very nice Belgian wheat that is well worth looking into.
