Goose Island Pere Jacques
by KFAZ

One more Goose Island, A Belgian style ale, one of the 4 Goose Island Reserves Reviewed here and then I’m pretty sure were done with them for a while around here. If not, someone will die ;-) At least the good thing about the Reserves is they all don’t taste like a poor flavored 312.

Brewery Hometown: Chicago (you guys should know that by now)

Appearance: Well from the bottle, it looks like all the other Goose Island reserves but this one is written in cursive so it has to be something high class right?Pere jaques Starts off with head which comes out nice and white and then fades quickly leaving some lacing into a small ring of foam on top. The lacing doesn’t stay long either. Each drink also leaves lacing so you work your way down a cup. A dark ruby/caramel color.

Aroma: A sweet malt smell. Not like most with a citrus smell but of dark fruit, plums & grapes. Has a hint of alcohol but nothing over powering. And a lil hint of caramel and yeast. Not hoppy or anything at all.

Taste: For being dark, its smooth and a light taste to it. Starts off with a malty flavor which i would hope for since the bottle says “with Loads of Malt and Belgium yeast”. It goes into sweet but a good smooth sweetness from the dark fruit unlike citrus beers which give you a little kick in your mouth sometimes. Feels warm like a high alcohol beer but still not a strong taste of it. Leaves you wondering if it really is a 9% beer. It’s not a dry beer either, kinda sticky feel probably from the sugars of the fruit .

Alcohol: 9%

Drink one or all?: I could drink all 4 easily in one sitting. Very smooth and very drinkable. Not a chugging beer but one you don’t need to put down and take a break in between. But I think im saving one or 2 of them to see how the develop in a few months.

Cost: $8$/ 4 pack

Overall: 9.0 / 10 I loved it. But I don’t know shit about Belgium ales but this one was amazing. Makes me want to trying some other Belgium ales that aren’t made in the USA, maybe even made in Belgium? but that might make too much sense…

Also there is one more Goose Island Reserve that has to be review the IPA….Which I might have to do and then punch myself in the face for having another Goose Island on here but at this rate of how good they are, it’ll probably be worth it.
